What’s in this Lesson- An Overview

Welcome to this special “Back to Class September” lesson.  Many of you have heard me say – “there is always something new to learn in each new piece of music” and together with the arrangements you’ll receive in this month’s lesson, this is particularly true!

This lesson offers so very much to learn about -unique styles, unique sounds, unique effects, styling clues, printed preset changes, and an in-depth workshop.  All features are discussed in the notes provided, built into the arrangements, and recorded for you to have and listen to.  The music this month is the same for all levels purposely so you can concentrate on the sound of the styles and the effects programmed into the presets you’ll receive.

This month’s EZ version features an excellent Duke Ellington style, and the Intermediate version will give you a very haunting, modern accompaniment, using beautiful sound suggestions from one of the very first “more categories” I ever made forLowrey, but very seldom used or suggested in classrooms.  You’ll love how this category matches the style in the Intermediate version.

Our main song is “September in the Rain” and the style and sound suggestions I give you fit perfectly with the music.  As always, I give these lesson already programmed for both E Series and A series instruments, but this month, I’ve included a specialMarquee arrangement for this song as the Artist Version for Marquee students, but I also choose a classy style artist version for A series owners.  Both are great choices for this song’s arrangement, both with warm and rich orchestration. This month, however, you may find the EZ version to actually be your favorite. There’s no one who played Big Band style like Duke Ellington and this song really works well for the Duke.

Your bonus song this month is a fun, old favorite that most of us grew up with and can be used as a great novelty arrangement.  It includes a rarely included verse, and era specific instruments.  I write about the importance of playing verses when you can find them.  This Bonus arrangement has a great verse that melts right into the chorus, and again it is all arranged for you to just play and enjoy.  I think you’ll really enjoy the sounds and styles in the old song“School Days”.

This month’s workshop you’ll be learning about “secondary notes” and when to play them, as well as insightful information about two categories covered this month – “Cascade” and “Modern”.  You’ll learn a little secret about the cascade category. Both your main song lesson and your bonus song have lots of great information to offer and make use of these categories in a way to help you understand them better.

As always, all your lesson music, in all the versions, are given to you in Lowrey Music files and MP3s, so you can hear them played and listen to as often as you’d like.  I enjoy recording these great arrangements…and you just may hear me playing them live in concerts this month!
