What’s in this Lesson- An Overview

For Thanksgiving and throughout the holidays, here are two songs that celebrate the spirit of giving thanks and enjoying the fellowship of family and friends!

For this lesson, I have arranged two traditional Thanksgiving songs for you to add to your library of arrangements- one in a uniquely traditional styling and the other in two more contemporary versions.  Always popular in our American culture and our places of worship, I thought all of you should have arrangements of the songs “We Gather Together”, also known as the Thanksgiving Song, and the hymn “Now Thank We All Our God”.

The styles and sound sources for both these songs are surprisingly familiar, or at least they should be, as I find they are rarely referenced in classroom settings. So this lesson will be a look “back” as to what is new and old in styles, bank presets and the always versatile MORE categories section.  These are areas of optional sounds you should re-familiarize yourself with, as a way of making some much loved, older styles sound new again.

As we approach the Christmas holidays, we’ll be surrounded with lots of traditional music and sounds, so I’ll also be talking about some of the traditional organ sounds being used in this lesson as a way for you to grow your knowledge of the history of these sounds, and how they have been applied in these arrangements for everyone to use and enjoy. You’ll sound like a seasoned church organist using these arrangement and sounds!

With that in mind, this month’s workshop will give you some information on the sounds of the organ in traditional church settings.  This is information everyone should have some working knowledge of, as our Lowrey instruments are based on an “organ” platform.   The same sounds found in this month’s lesson songs are the ones that inspire us to actively participate in our church services.

For those “newer students” just joining my lesson program, you may want to know that an “Autumn” theme lesson and Christmas music preparation workshop is also available.  So if you have missed this great lesson, music and workshop, you may want t

o add it to this month’s lesson purchase as well. Go to my website jimvogelman.com to order.

I know you’ll enjoy the songs in this month’s lesson, as they been for many of us, a part of our lives but perhaps not part of our music.  So here’s a chance to now get to know these holiday songs better, with great arrangements that will make learning them more meaningful, especially this month.

Thanks to all of you for being such good and faithful “students”!

Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Jim
